Brooke Converse Named UMC Outstanding Ag Ed Student of the Year

A Future Agriculture Teacher

Brooke Converse Named UMC Outstanding Ag Ed Student of the Year

A recent graduate of the University of Minnesota–Crookston, Brooke has been building toward a future in agricultural education since high school. Her involvement in FFA sparked an early love for leadership, education, and the agriculture industry—eventually guiding her toward a degree in Agricultural Education and a commitment to inspire the next generation of students.

Brooke’s connection to agriculture took root in the classroom when she was unexpectedly placed on a Soils Career Development Event (CDE) team. What began as a fun opportunity quickly became a turning point. That single event opened the door to competitions, leadership roles, and a deeper appreciation for the power of agricultural education. Today, Brooke is preparing to begin her teaching career and recently earned the title of Outstanding Agricultural Education Student of the Year at the  University of Minnesota–Crookston—an award recognizing academic excellence, professionalism, and a strong commitment to the teaching profession.

A Summer with Minnesota Teach Ag

In 2024, Brooke was selected as a Minnesota Teach Ag intern and spent her summer working with Mrs. Seena Glessing at Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted High School. Her internship provided immersive, real-world experience in classroom engagement, community events, and FFA chapter support.

Brooke helped facilitate activities at the Wright County Fair, supported the summer Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (AFNR) program and school garden, chaperoned the State Greenhand Leadership Conference, and attended the Minnesota Association of Agricultural Educators (MAAE) Summer Conference alongside fellow interns. Through each of these experiences, she strengthened her skills and deepened her passion for agricultural education.

“I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity to work alongside a teacher and FFA advisor as dedicated as Mrs. Glessing,” she reflected. “I’m excited to explore various aspects of agricultural education, engage with students, and make a positive impact within the FFA community.”

Future Plans

Following graduation, Brooke will be teaching  AFNR education at Milaca Public Schools  Her vision is to foster meaningful relationships, build inclusive learning environments, and guide students to discover their own paths in agriculture and leadership.

“I believe in the future of agriculture,” she says. “And I am hopeful that I can be part of the reason others do too.”

Brooke’s Impact on the Minnesota Ag Ed Community

Brooke’s story exemplifies what it means to be a future agriculture teacher—passionate, driven, and community-minded. As a student leader, intern, and now award-winning scholar, she continues to make an impact on AFNR education in Minnesota.

Having Brooke as part of the Minnesota Teach Ag program has been a privilege. Her story not only celebrates personal achievement but also serves as an inspiring example for current and future students considering a career in AFNR education.

We are proud to recognize Brooke’s contributions and look forward to seeing her thrive as an educator in the years to come.
